Several people have said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was wrong to have gone on with the same faith ticket. They argue that Nigeria is never a country with a single religion. And so, every faith should have a sense of belonging.

They also said the party has no excuse to go on with a Muslim-Muslim ticket. And even if it had one, it holds no water because we have had past perfect combinations like Obasanjo-Atiku, Yardua-GEJ, GEJ-SAMBO, and Buhari-Osinbajo.

But, no part of the constitution says, "faith should be considered as a factor while choosing a running mate?". And if it is in the constitution, that means we have not been fair to the traditional worshippers. So, they deserve our apology.

If we want to be sincere with ourselves, all past perfect combinations (Muslim-Christain or Christain-Muslim ticket) we referenced did not come because those flagbearers wished to be fair with any religion.

While it may appear as though it was for fairness, we want to tell you it was never so. Follow us.

Politics is a game that requires its players to be intelligent. In the game, he who seriously means business and wants to win must be able to think and execute game-changing without considering public sentiments.

This is not different in elections. Being a game of puzzles, candidates are expected to choose a running mate that can help their ambition irrespective of the religion they may belong to.

With this, it won't be wrong to assert that all past perfect combinations we have seen were not made intentionally to arrive at the Muslim-Christain or Christain-Muslim ticket. Rather, it was simply to arrive at the best political calculation to favor their dream. It is not primarily to balance the faith or avoid what people would say as many think.

This is not different from what the All Progressives Congress and the Party's Presidential flagbearer had just done. While several think he picked his running mate out of love for Islam, we can tell you he chose Kasim Shettima based on the value they assumed he could bring to the 2023 game.

Because the election is like Mathematical theory and the choice of formula (running mate) used (selected) is one of the determinants to winning it, politicians do not consider faith or emotion when choosing a running mate. Rather, they prioritize values. In simple form, if a pagan can deliver 2 million votes for any party, they will forget the choice of Muslim or Christain.

As a people, religion is not an important factor in politics. Rather than criticizing a party based on religion, we should demand that they choose the best candidates to deliver the much-expected good governance.

For clarification, this publisher does not mean that out of the thousands of politicians in the ruling All Progressives Congress, the former Borno State Governor, Sen. Kasim Shettima, is the best. We also did not say that only Muslims are the best. We only say that parties choose running mates that can help achieve their election dream. We also say we should focus on seeing capable people ruling us.

This is our opinion, you can also drop yours. Thanks.
