Reactions have trailed the recent outing of the fast-rising Music artist, Portable, with OSUN APC and Gov. Gboyega Oyetola. If you are unaware of this outing that is still generating reactions online, we will take the time to brief you.
The "Wahala" musician, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, was in Osun yesterday. Like every other musician, he was there to campaign for APC and its candidate, who will participate in the gubernatorial election just a few hours ahead of us.
The fact that Portable came out to campaign and endorsed the candidate of a despised party, the All Progressives Congress, netizens, most especially youths, are unhappy. His flaunting of the cash received for the job also irritated them, so he was being dragged seriously.
While netizens keep attacking and branding him as a senseless individual for his action, we think this is not in any way bad. We urge you to continue reading as we share our divergent views about his actions and why he was never wrong.
First, we should not forget that Portable is a celebrity, just like K1, Pasuma, Tiwa Savage, and others. Celebrities are known for promoting brands. And we all understand that brands can be anything, and anyone can approach them as an influencer.
Secondly, what the Zazuu crooner had done was not in any way different from what David Adeleke did. Recall that on Thursday, the award-winning artist, Davido, was also in Osun to campaign support for his uncle, a governorship candidate in the July 16th election.
Even though many have established differences, such as Davido would not collect money for the campaign. The fact remains that he was also influencing a brand just like Portable. In that sense, Davido also deserved to be dragged.
Why do we have to take celebrities seriously?
As we earlier said, celebrities are brand promoters. They do this brand promotion for the incentives aspect of it and not for any other reason. And Because they are after the money, they promote and endorse products they have never used.
Brands can be tangible products or services. Political parties, which are also brands, patronize them because they believe several fans of these celebrities are gullible. They know you would take action based on your love for the artists (laugh), which sounds funny.
We want to emphasize that most celebrities only promote a brand for the money involved. They do not mean anything they say about it; they are only doing what they are being paid for.
We don't need to be bothered about whoever they campaign for. Rather, we should stop being gullible. We should have advanced to that stage that what a celebrity says does not reflect our actions. We should remember that if they dictate to us and we follow, they won't claim responsibility if their candidate fails in governance.
